Hydraulic Cylinders, Rams & Gland Rings for Rubber Processing Equipment

In-House Cylinder and Ram Repair

Hydraulic cylinders and rams are subject to wear, scoring, and seal degradation over the service life of a press or mixer. When these components fail or degrade, the effect shows up as pressure loss, leakage, inconsistent stroke, or positioning problems that directly affect the quality of the parts or compound being processed.

Cylinder Honing

Restoration of the cylinder bore to proper surface finish and dimensions to support new seal installation and restore pressure integrity.

Ram Re-Chroming

Hard chrome application to worn or scored ram surfaces, followed by grinding and polishing to restore dimensional accuracy and the surface finish required for proper seal performance.

Seal Replacement

Removal of worn or deteriorated seals and installation of new seal sets appropriate for the operating pressure, temperature, and fluid type of the application.

Leak Diagnosis & Repair

Assessment of cylinder and ram systems to identify the source of leakage—whether at seals, fittings, or cylinder surfaces—and repair to restore proper function.

New Cylinders

New hydraulic cylinders fabricated in-house to the specifications of the original where refurbishment is not appropriate or the existing component is beyond economical repair.

Gland Ring Replacement and Fabrication

Gland rings—the components that retain and support cylinder seals at the cylinder end—are wear items that require periodic replacement. When gland rings are worn, damaged, or no longer dimensionally accurate, seal life suffers and leakage follows. WCRM supplies replacement gland rings for rubber processing equipment of most makes, and can fabricate gland rings to match original specifications where standard replacements are not available.

Standard Replacement Gland Rings: Replacement gland rings for common rubber press, mill, and mixer cylinder configurations.

Custom Fabricated Gland Rings: In-house machining capability to fabricate gland rings to the exact dimensions of the original for equipment where standard replacements are no longer available.

Material Selection: Gland rings fabricated in appropriate materials for the operating environment—standard steels for most applications, with alternatives available for high-temperature or corrosive service.

Cylinders for All Rubber Processing Equipment

Hydraulic Rubber Presses: Main press cylinders, ejector cylinders, and auxiliary cylinders for compression, vacuum, and lamination presses.

Rubber Mixers: Floating weight cylinders and slide door cylinders for internal mixers.

Hydraulic Mill Components: Roll adjustment hydraulics and other hydraulic components on mills with hydraulic nip control.

What information do I need to request a cylinder quote?

Cylinder bore diameter, rod/ram diameter, stroke length, operating pressure, and a description of the problem—leaking, won’t hold pressure, damaged chrome, and so on. Photos are helpful. Make and model of the press or mixer if available.

Can you fabricate cylinders for older equipment where parts are no longer available?

Yes. In-house machining capability means we can fabricate cylinders and gland rings to match original specifications for equipment that is no longer supported by the original manufacturer.

How do I know if a cylinder should be repaired or replaced?

Cylinders with scored bore surfaces, cracked bodies, or structural damage are typically candidates for replacement. Cylinders with worn chrome on the ram, degraded seals, or minor bore wear are usually good candidates for refurbishment. Contact WCRM to discuss your specific situation.
